Check if SharePoint snap-in is already initialized in PowerShell:

If you are a SharePoint beginner and want to some quick administrative tasks, then you will need power-shell.

What exactly is a power-shell?

Power-shell is a command prompt similar to the terminal command center in linux environments. This allows the Admins to control system, SharePoint, Sql Server and all Microsoft tools just from the command prompt. This is the fastest and easiest(well a little complicated at the beginning) way to perform all kinds of administrative tasks.

In order to use power-shell to do the admin stuff with SharePoint, SharePoint snapin has to be added. Adding the same snapin multiple times might lead to performance issues. To prevent this, it is always a better practice to check if the snapin is previously added.
